“I’ll take nine steps and look up. Whatever my eyes light on, that’s my sign. When I looked up, I saw a crop duster plunging his little plane over a field of growing things, behind him a cloud of pesticides parachuting out. I couldn’t decide what part of this scene I represented: the plants about to be rescued from the bugs, or the bugs about to be murdered by the spay. There was an off chance I was really the airplane zipping over the earth creating rescue and doom wherever I went.”
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd
i. after one hidden thing comes to light, you begin to wonder what remains in the darkness, or what could be stowed there later. trust is what we use to peer through the shadows, never truly sure of what we’re seeing in the fog.
ii. the process of unloving is one of forgetting, or trying to forget, or trying to remember differently. destroy yourself. put yourself together and be whole again. remember it takes time.
iii. it should be enough. “i love you, you love me.” everything else should fall away into oblivion. it should be enough, but there are always consequences. life is messy, and hard. it will require patience and work.
iv. the heart is afraid because it is fragile. exposing it is dangerous but protecting it is costly. choose wisely.
v. there are a thousand different reasons to do any given thing, and we are always making choices. everything is complicated. don’t forget the nuances. strive to understand each other, but never assume you do.
vi. you will blame people for things they haven’t even done. you will nurture scorn in your suspicions. this isn’t fair. remember this. remember your own foolishness. be wary.

elaha and i went to the gym together today and she made me do abs and i almost died.
i kept giving up partway through the exercises even though she kept telling me to keep going.
she kept trying to convince the both of us to not give up and i just kept flopping to the ground.
it was grueling and miserable, but at least we got to take this fun gym selfie!

sadiq, who graces the cover of the first ever issue of gostyle man magazine, brought me and elaha to the gotstyle turns 10 party on saturday night, and it was a lot of glamorous, well-dressed fun (thanks sadiq!).
everyone was very stylish and beautiful (fashion party wut wut), and there was an open bar, which was both a blessing and a curse – the greatest temptation, and i’m always so bad at resisting my vices.
there was also an oyster bar, at which i made myself a near permanent fixture. i met a lot of people while slurping down oyster after oyster, and a couple of people noticed my hovering and joked about it. the oysters so yummy though, i couldn’t help myself. i wanted to eat them all. actually, there was a lot of yummy food there, including chocolate strawberries that were really too big to eat without making a mess of your face – or maybe i just don’t know how to eat properly, because i seemed to be the only one struggling with chocolate smears. it was worth it.
i unexpectedly bumped into a couple of friends who play in busty and the bass – they were part of the entertainment for the evening, and i was grateful to have found them because prior to that i was kind of just aimlessly wandering around and taking in all of the razzle dazzle since i didn’t really know anyone and sadiq was getting ready for the fashion show.
i watched sadiq walk a celebrity runway, and then the afterparty started.
i got progressively drunker throughout the night (lots of wine, some hard liquor, some beer, some scotch), which made everything very floaty, and i ended up meeting a lot of people, making some new friends and connections and even networking a little bit. everyone was really nice. there were some big names there that i half-recognized and it only added to the glitz and the glamour.
elaha was really late because of work, but she showed up at one point and we probably embarrassed ourselves somehow because by then all of my inhibitions were basically gone. it was no longer classy obed at a glamorous event – just drunk me having a time, which is always fun.
sadiq and elaha and i somehow ended up at frans, but i was too incapacitated to eat my food, so i left both of them and walked home.
i somehow lost sadiq’s blazer (which i’d borrowed) on the way, and it made me very sad when i woke up the next day.
but all in all it was a beautiful night, and i think we all had a pretty good time. hurray for friendship and fun, and congrats on the cover, sadiq!
WASHINGTON – When Miles Jai Thomas arrived at a party at the Craig Ranch North Community Pool in McKinney, Texas,
on Friday night, the pool was open to everyone – until a security
guard showed up and removed black partygoers from the area.“Then he started making up rules to keep us out,” Thomas, 15, told The Huffington Post.
A
white woman at the pool started making racist comments, Thomas said,
such as telling black teens at the party to get used to the bars outside
the pool because that’s all they were going to see.Grace Stone, 14, who is white, told BuzzFeed News
that she and friends objected to an adult woman making racist comments
to other teens at the party and that the woman turned violent. When @Keef_Cakez beat that ass pic.twitter.com/EhB5mY2aus
— Miles(K-Bandz) (@k1dmars) June 6, 2015
This
is when, according to Thomas, a 19-year-old black woman told the
belligerent white woman to stop fighting with the teenagers. The white
woman called the black woman a “young bitch,” then walked up to her.
After the young woman said her age out loud, the older woman punched her
in the face. Another unidentified white woman jumped in as well before
Thomas, who was recording the incident, and his friends went to break it
up.It was after this incident that the cops showed up and
“started cursing and yelling at us,” Thomas said. He described an
officer manhandling a young girl, as shown in this video embedded above.“So a cop grabbed her arm and flipped her to the ground after she and him were arguing about him cursing at us,” Thomas said.
When two teens went toward the cop to help the girl, they were accused of sneaking up on the cop to attack.
“So
a cop yelled ‘get those motherfuckers’ and they chased [us] with guns
out. That’s why in the video I started running,” Thomas said.“I was scared because all I could think was, ‘Don’t shoot me,’” he said.
About
20 people were handcuffed during the incident, Thomas estimated.
McKinney Chief of Police Greg Conley said in a press conference that one arrest was made, according to BuzzFeed News. This story is developing and will be updated as we hear back from people involved in the incident.
this is fucked. but i mean, it’s texas. what a terrifying place.

“Help, I’ve fallen glamorously and I can’t get up ;]”
All of the other mannequins look like they’re so sick of his shit.
“God damn it, Jerry’s at it again.
i didn’t realize until now that my spirit animal is actually a mannequin.
here is a series of photos of me and chris being super cute on our grad day!!
my convocation ceremony was on monday morning and it was super cute, even though everything leading up to it was a horrible (read: fun) mess.
1. i wasn’t even sure if i was going to get my diploma because i was super duper late paying my stupid library fine. i got an email telling me that if i didn’t pay it by may 22nd, they would put a little piece of paper saying they would send me my diploma once i paid my fine in that giant red envelope instead of giving me my actual diploma. i paid the fine on may 23rd, right as the librarian was about to leave for the day because i don’t know how to handle my own life. thankfully, when i opened the red envelope, i found my diploma waiting inside. not having it during the ceremony would’ve definitely taken away some of the sparkle of the day. it really just wouldn’t have been the same. my “we did it” moment would’ve just been a little lackluster, even though i don’t really care about that grossly expensive piece of paper at all.
2. we were so late leaving toronto, and therefore so late getting into montreal. we were supposed to leave at 9am and ended up leaving at 3 in the afternoon (six hours late). we also stopped a ton of times for food and snacks and coffee. at one point, i really had to go pee, so we got off the highway and drove for a few minutes before realizing the nearest bathroom was probably really far away. we turned and drove back and every little bump in the road made my bladder feel like it was going to burst. i kind of just wanted to sink into the ground or evaporate. we ended up pulling over and i didn’t even run behind a tree or anything to hide my shame while i urinated everywhere. at the end of the day we’re all just dumb animals. we ended up arriving in montreal at a little past 11pm.
3. chris came over and visited my family in our hotel once we got settled in, which was really sweet. he watched the latest episode of game of thrones with us even though he doesn’t follow the series. he asked a lot of questions and i struggled with providing him with answers that even semi-comprehensively did justice to the complexities and nuances laid over four and a half seasons worth of television. he was mostly confused the entire time, but at least we got to hold hands. after he left, we decided to watch snowpiercer even though my convocation was early the next day. i ended up sleeping at 5am and having to wake up at 7:30.
4. i almost did not reach my faculty in time to walk into the graduation tent with them. i’d woken up a little bit late, had a huge breakfast, and then showered and whipped on some clothes before hopping into my van. it was supposed to be a 10 minute drive, but there was so much dumb construction blocking our way to campus. we had to take a bunch of detours and by the time i reached the bookstore to pick up my gown, it was already past 9:20am. they’d told us to be ready at the meeting spot with our gowns an hour before the 10am ceremony. i ended up running towards a line of people i noticed were wearing the same colour hoods as me as they walked towards the tent, and yelling at everyone to tell me which number they were. i was 210. i ended up finding my place in line right as i was supposed to walk into the tent because i’m #blessed. it was all very stressful and dramatic. leave it to me to make such a dumb entrance.
but even though i was so completely unprepared and unorganized, as per usual, everything worked out and turned out great. i got a few cheers when my name was called, which is always nice, and i looked great walking across the stage, shaking hands and flashing smiles and getting my head ceremonially bopped by our principal(?).
chris came to meet me after the ceremony to take photos, and he brought me a grad teddy bear as a present. it was so cute and now it’s in my room where it watches me sleep.
i got a lot of cute family photos, a couple of photos with friends and a bunch of adorable photos with chris.
it was nice to see everyone looking so accomplished and proud and i’d like to believe we all had a huge collective sigh at our four years of hard work and play coming to an end.
my family (+ luz) had lunch at weinstein and gavino’s and our table was right next to vincent cassel (had to google it) from black swan’s!! i tried to play it cool and not glance over too frequently, but he was also with some really handsome french(?) guy, so it was hard. they left right after we did, so they were behind us as we walked down the street, and i’m convinced they were falling completely in love with me. sadly, i sped up to catch up with my dad, so they probably felt dejected and had to turn the corner out of embarrassment.
we all headed over to my old apartment to pack all of my things (i forgot my shoes), and then i met up with chris to take photos with him after his graduation ceremony. it was v pda and v cute.
we went and got froyo and then went back to his apartment to cuddle and soak each other in for about an hour before i had to leave for toronto. it was very warm and sweet and full of love and contentment. deep, deep breathing and slipping into the semi-conscious and then heat.
all in all, it was a satisfying trip, and now i have a diploma!
i’m going to use it to continue working at abercrombie lol.
i want to have this last summer to just relax before i actively try joining the workforce, or go back to school. i got a keyboard, and now all i need is a mic and a pedal to make the music i want to make.
it’s very exciting.
