somewhat related to: i don’t get people pt. 2
so this kind of thing happens more than i’d like.
i’ll be somewhere – say at a bar or a party – talking to one of my guy friends, i’ll leave for a bit, and when i come back some other guy will be flirting with him – and i’ll know that it was some pretty obvious flirting because my friend and i will laugh about it later.
“yeah, he just came up to me, said he saw us talking and thought he’d introduce himself.”
often, later on in the night, the flirty guy will come up to me – if i don’t already know him he’ll introduce himself and ask about my friend, and if i do already know him, he’ll just ask “so are you and so-and-so a thing?”
and i just don’t get why you would deliberately go out of your way to flirt with someone you think might be seeing someone else. i just think it’s kind of rude, but maybe i’m just super territorial. i mean, i’m a natural flirt so i kind of get it.
but i was on a date with someone fairly recently, and i just found out that our waiter texted him and asked him out the next day.
like i mean come on, there was no ambiguity there – we were clearly on a date.
i just can’t grasp the amount of audacity and narcissism it would take to pull such a shady move.
the message that sends is “why would you be with him when you could be with me instead?” or “hey, let’s go out when whatever you have going on falls apart ;)”
there’s just something i find so weirdly selfish and disrespectful about the whole thing.
but i guess it’s fair game when your date doesn’t even think of “sorry but i’m actually kind of seeing someone right now” as a good reply.
