yesterday elaha asked me why i always look so mean in my neutral state. we were walking through a crowd of people and i guess i looked pissed.
it might’ve been the crowd, or it might’ve just been my face.
i’m actually pretty nice though, i think.
dirty little whirlwind, i'm pinned to the heart of your swirl.
DISCLAIMER: this is a personal blog (i just want to write about my life 😭) and does not necessarily reflect the views, opinions or perspectives of my employer or church.

elaha, sadiq, anna and i all went to dance cave last night and it turned out to be really fun.
we all met up at anna’s new apartment before heading out, and it was nice to catch up with her and tell stories and throw around some light and mostly harmless gossip. it was also nice to introduce friends from different parts of my life. friends friends for everyone!
i bumped into my store manager at dance cave, and it’s always strange and fun to see my bosses outside of work. i guess sadiq’s a manager too, but not really in my mind.
sadiq thought he was going to hate dance cave based on limited previous experience, but he ended up loving it. he swears it must’ve been a different dj or something because they were playing his jams. and my jams. and all of our jams.
elaha and i went back to my place when the night was over, and then her ex showed up. it was the first time i actually got to meet her ex, and apparently it was the first time they’d seen each other in about a year. we sat and watched music videos from the early 2000s in my room and then we started watching the first episode of the face australia. i was paying attention to all of naomi’s shenanigans, but i think they were both very distracted.
then her ex said something rude(?) and there were some tears and it was all very tender and emotional but i was very tired. i left the room so they could hash things out for a bit and then they left at around 5ish.
i went straight to bed.
relationships are so weird.
today i met up with philip at eatons and we went into abercrombie to get my job back. now i can start making money again.
we wandered around for a bit and chatted and caught up and then he had to go pick up his girlfriend at somewhere near the ex.
when we parted ways i went to fido to finally get my phone sent away for repairs (it wouldn’t connect to wifi and the camera was broken). i had to wait until i got to toronto to do this because when i tried to do it in montreal, they didn’t have any loaner phones and it was horrible.
i’ve been using the loaner phone fido gave me today (pictured above) to take photos, and they’re so horrible that i love them.
i went home for all of two seconds and then went back to eatons to meet up with elaha, who wanted to shop for cute summer things. she bought “festival fit” shorts so now she has to come to osheaga.
we got some post-shopping sushi and then we headed to my place and watched the first couple of episodes of the new season of australia’s next top model.
it’s so nice that i have someone to watch trash tv with again.
sadiq came over at around 10ish and we drank a little bit before wandering outside (presumably heading to the annex) and trying to figure out what to do.
we ended up just grabbing a pizza (the pizza guy really liked us and gave us his number with an offer to give us free basic financial advice or something) and heading back to my place and watching the third and latest episode of the new season of austrlalia’s next top model.
sadiq wanted to dance though, so we’re just going to go out tomorrow.

january is always such an exciting time of year full of change, new things, spontaneity and fun. elaha and i were talking and she told me that she’s noticed this to be the time of year we finally start cheering up and recovering from our seasonal affective disorder. apparently it’s really bad when it starts transitioning into winter, but once everything’s steady, it gets better. i guess i never really put it together that way. this winter hasn’t been too bad at all though. i’m in a really happy place, which is nice.
last sunday, luke, joffjoff and i went to igloofest on a really last minute whim because it was so warm. we ended up having a pretty fun time, dancing in the crowd, bumping into a bunch of friends and making some new ones. apparently some people drove from really far away to attend igloofest – i didn’t know people did that. i can’t imagine driving so far just to dance in the freezing cold and dance, but sunday was really fun.
EDIT: nellie just messaged me and told me that it’s not that winter stabalizes, but that the days get brighter as of the end of december, so i’m less sad partially because i’m getting more vitamin d. so interesting!!
my new years was so messy. but lovely!!!
these photos are so warm and cute!!
ahhhhhhh~
i will do a recap of my winter break soon (future me get ready to reminisce!!).
nellie’s parents got her and a friend (she picked me yay) a spa day at bota bota for her birthday, so we went and got pampered and had a blast (thanks nellie!!)!!
we started by soaking in an outdoor hot tub for a bit. it was snowing outside and everything was pretty and white and i kept all my limbs in the tub to keep warm.
then we both got relaxing messages, but mine was part therapeutic because of my recent back pains. my masseuse told me i should go see an osteopath because my hip isn’t aligned properly, which is what’s causing my back to hurt. maybe i’ll actually go see one when i head home for the holidays because i just want my body restored to its natural equilibrium.
after the massages went into the sauna and then the steam room. we were both still really oily from the massages so we showered before getting mani-pedi’s with martinis (or, in nellie’s case, a latte).
i got my nails painted black (streetsmart) and it’s making me want to start wearing rings and necklaces and bracelets again. i also need to replace my lost earring. i feel like this added touch of edge and glamour requires accessorizing, and i want to be a magical mystery witch.
we gossiped a little while we got our nails did and we generally had a swell time. it was all very relaxing and luxurious.
we went to isakaya after the spa and i finally got to eat the lamb miso, which was delicious. the first time i tried ordering the lamb miso, they gave me miso ramen instead (i ate it anyway, it was fine) and the second time they didn’t have it, so this experience was long in the making, and it didn’t disappoint.
then we went to nellie’s and hung out for a bit before i headed home to basically bask in being able to do nothing for the next couple of days.
good day, good day.

my booboo ran a marathon today – the culmination of a lot of hard work and training – and i am so incredibly impressed and so, so proud of him!! he ran a whopping 42.2km, which is crazy and probably impossible for me.
i love seeing my man accomplish wonderful things!
maybe this will inspire me to study hard for my midterm tomorrow.
i went to the cock n’ bull last night for the first time ever with a bunch of pals and it turned out to be a pretty swell time.
it was my first time there even though it’s one of luke’s favourite pubs and allegedly a place of legendaray memories (or, perhaps, non-memories).
we stopped by the free edm festival on crescent street but only stayed for about 10 minutes before we realized we would rather sit and drink in a bar with good company rather than surround ourselves with sweaty 17-year-olds jumping on our feet.
upon entering the cock n’ bull, we realized we’d coincidentally stumbled into one of the stops for a concordia frosh pub crawl, which was funny and exciting.
noemie and i shared a pitcher of sangria that was bigger than our heads, and the boys split a bunch of 4 litre pitchers of beer, so there was definitely no shortage of inebriation.
this meant that we ended up joining in on the frosh festivities, cheering them on while joffjoff and luke took body shots off of froshies and had froshies take body shots off of them.
one of the organizers liked us so much that she gave us a bunch of free tickets to the official afterparty, so naturally luke and i had to attend.
we got there and it turned out to be at the same club where we had our first irc halloween party in first year, and i considered this a magical bit of serendipity.
we danced on stage above a sea of concordia first years and it was both hilarious and nostalgic. it really reminded me of my own first year, and it kind of hit home that this is my last year at mcgill.
i thought about the mix of anxiety and excitement these kids must be feeling, and about how much i’ve changed in the last few years, and everything kind of went full circle while i danced to blaring music.
luke and i left shortly afterwards and met up with our friends at a house party.
it was one of those nights full of happy coincidences and unforseen adventures and it was a lot of fun.

psa: i took this photo of my body because i needed a new icon for my new laptop or something and it is lookin bangin because i’ve been going to #spinclass.
luke came to visit this weekend and it was super cute and mostly wholesome.
he arrived on friday night and we went out and partied with the aberkids for kelly and stephanie’s birthday at cube.
i managed to sneak into a booth and procure a decent amount of champagne and alcohol before a couple of the guys realized i wasn’t a part of their group. the ladies i was chatting with didn’t seemed to mind having me around though, but oh well.
then we went home and watched an episode of the mindy project (“i don’t want to,” “but she’s so relatable!”) before going to sleep.
the next day we helped paint yodit’s room and it was all very cute. we had wine and pizza and we hid from her vicious, elaha-eating dog. i was basically useless, but all in all i think we did a pretty good job. yodit’s mom seemed to be impressed.
then we went home and watched “man on wire”, an episode of “the leftovers” and “godzilla” before going to bed.
we were supposed to go to church the next day (luke got dressed up and it was so cute), but we were running late and we weren’t going to make it in time so we just stayed home, took some fun stuff and painted for a bit.
he painted a picture called “hot dogs or legs” and i painted one called “portrait of a girl by metric.” mine had a face in it and his didn’t.
then elaha came over and we walked around and stumbled into an art exhibit/market cooperative or something and it was really cool. we saw some art and heard someone singing solange and then headed to kensington market for pedestrian sunday.
turns out it wasn’t the last sunday of the month yet, but it was whatever – luke still liked it.
and then we went to harbourfront and boarded a ferry to the island. we walked around for a really long time trying to find a hedge maze (which i have subsequently discovered has been taken down) but gave up and decided to climb over a wall which we weren’t supposed to climb over to pretend to be mermaids on the rocks by the water.
we contemplated the powers of nature and the impotence of humanity in the face of far greater forces and it was chill.
then we went to the franklin garden and laid down in the treehouse and listened to music. it was very serene and beautiful and the sunlight filtered in in perfect ways and everything was good.
and then we went home, where i discovered i had a stupid tan because i’d worn a tanktop all day.
sadiq and i took luke to kinton that night and i made him eat his entire bowl of ramen so we could get a photo.
the next day we went to the beach with elaha, and i was happy because that gave me a chance to even out my tan. we brought beer and laid out in the sun next to a group of 16-year-old hooligans who were waving mickey’s around and smoking cigarettes and joints – and i just kept hoping i didn’t look so ridiculously precocious in the worst ways when i was their age.
then we went home and luke fell asleep watching “x men days of future past.”
he left this morning, and i guess i’ll miss him for a week before i see him again in montreal.
i’m so excited for school to start, and i’m basically missing frosh so i won’t even have to encounter all the drunk babies running around campus!
and i get to see my booboo in a few weeks!
