people keep talking about this election and yadda yadda yadda and it goes on and on and on and on and on.
and people keep saying we should learn to sympathize and listen to our neighbours and try to understand why people feel so disenfranchised and so hurt and why so many people allowed this horrible man to come to power.
but i’m sorry if someone yells “faggot” outside their car window and my first instinct isn’t to understand why it is they hate me so much.
i’m sorry if i don’t really want to understand why it is that the two very young men walking past me on the sidewalk turn around and say “chink” and tell me to go back home (it’s happened to me on my very own street, right here in canada, even before this horrible election).
i’m kind of fucking done with people telling me to just listen to these horrible, hateful, detrimental voices – asking me to understand why it is that people might have voted for this man, maybe not because of his horrible views, but despite them.
the most terrible voices have been empowered.
the message is that no matter how monstrous you are as a human being, nobody really cares and you can still succeed. in fact, many people might just be as terrible as you. and maybe that’s just the horrible way of the world.
the worst of humanity has been allowed and encouraged and i don’t understand how people don’t see what’s wrong with that.
and you can say “no it’s not like that” or “no it’s just rhetoric” or “no he’s going to bring real change and actually fix america!!” but honestly go fuck yourself.
it starts slow, but it builds.
the world is a shade darker.
please just let me know if you also think i should be electrocuted into heterosexuality, or if you also want me deported because my eyes might be different from yours. please just let me know how much less than you you think i am.
and i’m drunk and i’m angry, and i hope that i reread this years from now and laugh about how wrong and how dramatic and how stupid i was.
i hope i’m wrong about how bad this is going to be.
because it’s kind of scary, and kind of sad, and in the end, it’s kind of exhausting.
