dirty little whirlwind, i'm pinned to the heart of your swirl.

DISCLAIMER: this is a personal blog (i just want to write about my life 😭) and does not necessarily reflect the views, opinions or perspectives of my employer or church.

at yodit’s.

above: the cake was gone by then, so we held the candles – faced the melting wax – so she could make a wish.

yodit’s sweet sixteen took place on sunday somewhere in riverdale in the darkdarkdarkness.

i arrived early (around 5 pm) to help her set up and i ended up feeling competent and useful – two things i don’t feel enough. i’ve never been really good with practical life skills, but i helped her decide what to pack and we (with the help of cheyienne and anesia) carried all the stuff all the way to riverdale, which is a treck and a half, so i felt fairly capable and good about myself as a contributing member of society.

the sun set without my noticing and there we were, in a dark field, the food laid across a single picnic table, as guests started to arrive. there were faces i recognized and faces i didn’t and i made do and tried to mesh.

yodit’s supplier of alcohol bailed, the stores were closed and people were starting to get antsy, so she sent me (the single carrier of a fake i.d.) along with a bunch of other people to chinatown on what would prove to be a wild goose chase. this kind of peeved me, but i ditched the group – with a fast-paced walk and my phone pressed against my ear – and met up with elaha on the way back.

for the rest of the party, it was like us and then them; we were segregated and cast aside, spectators wrapped in the same blanket but we didn’t mind merely observing the raucous around us. it was yodit’s night after all, and she was having fun, and that was all that mattered.

to be fair, we didn’t exactly make an effort to reach out either.

after a few hours, a cake fight (HUGE WASTE OF CAKE), the useless tearing and subsequent scattering of paper plates and various utensils and a few lap dances, people started to leave and soon, it was just elaha, me, yodit and one of her friends.

elaha and i cleaned up after everyone and adrien called and met up with us soon afterwards. he is actually so difficult to get a hold of. seriously, who doesn’t carry their phone around with them? isn’t it kind of obsolete otherwise? it pretty much takes him three days to return a text.

“if i carried my phone around, people would call all the time and i don’t want to talk to people.”

“if i want to hang out, i’ll let you know (when i want to grace you with my presence).”

COCKY.

yodit’s friend left and the four of us made our way to her house. we pulled a couple mattresses down from her bunk bed and laid them down on her living room floor to create a cozy little sleeping space.

the night was made up of quirky pyjamas, petty banter and futile complaining (and then some booty from yodit). it was a good chill session and i think the four of us felt some sort of pull together; some strange sense of gravity in the room that allowed us to be strangely tight-knit by the end of the night.

but adrien was argumentative and condescending, as per. i know he’s just teasing, but it just goes on and on. he keeps correcting everything i say. it’s almost like he’s trying to prove himself superior or something (JERK). he’s all ‘i’ve only hung out with you a couple of times, but i feel like i know everything about you.’

NO. NO, YOU REALLY DON’T.

in the words of tyra banks: “YOU DON’T KNOW WHERE THE HELL I COME FROM. YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I’VE BEEN THROUGH.”

(don’t worry, that was just me being funny)

we also physically fought a lot because i somehow have this idea in my head that i’m secretly some sort of warrior-ninja whose skills are just waiting to burst out.

we went to sleep eventually, with elaha and adrien sharing a couch and me and yodit on the mattresses.

i didn’t actually sleep that much. i spent a lot of time looking through the fridge and ‘contemplating life’ on the balcony, rearranging my pillow/blanket, stripping down because it was too warm and doing other nightly things that distracted me from dozing off.

i think i might have insomnia.
