pride weekend – friday.

above: apparently someone lost their weave at the beach. there must have been a cat fight or something. we kept seeing pieces of it everywhere.

so i impulsively met up with elaha after work on friday night and we spontaneously decided that it would be nice to go to the beach and watch the canada day fireworks display.

gotta love super last minute plans. they’re always the ones that turn out to be the most fun.

unfortunately, elaha arrived at the meeting place late and public transit was obscenely crowded so we ended up watching the fireworks through the window of a bus on the way to the beach.

when we got to the actual beach, a whole bunch of people were running away in a massive stampede, which both frightened and intrigued us. someone probably got shot or something – we never really found out, even though elaha kept asking ‘what happened?’ to nobody in particular.

we’re kind of stupid so the massive stampede didn’t scare us away and even though it seemed kind of dangerous, we decided to walk along the sand for a while before leaving.

elaha really wanted to get indian food afterwards so we walked all the way to the only 24 hour indian restaurant in town – the king’s palace. if anyone knows where this is, they’ll know it’s a hell of a long walk. from the beaches to bloor and yonge? that’s dedication.

we walked and we walked and we walked and then went into a mcdonalds to pee and grab an ice coffee and then we walked some more – past bridges and pubs and people with very questioning looks on their faces.

and we sang while we walked and discovered how difficult it is to come up with working harmonies if you over think it.

the king’s palace happened to be located along church street so we were able to immerse ourselves in the pride week celebrations on our way. the streets had been boarded off and they were jam packed with people. it was late and it was busy and it was loud and we enjoyed the intense vibrance of the city nightlife and all of the wonderful things that came with it.

people were just out and having a good time and everyone was friendly and it made us happy.

so we eventually made it to the king’s palace and realized the name of the restaurant was exceedingly misleading. suffice it to say it wasn’t exactly fine dining, but what more can you expect from some place that’s open 24 hours?

at least the food was good.

yodit met up with us having just finished her shift at work.

she’s really bad at following directions.

and we ate and enjoyed each other’s company and then headed back in the direction we came from to witness more of the liveliness of the night.

it was nice to see so many people out at 3 am, even if elaha kept warding off any potential friends by yelling ‘DON’T LOOK AT MY FRIEND’ at anyone she happened to catch checking me out.

and then we parted ways and i headed home all on my lonesome and i wasn’t even that scared of getting raped or beaten to death.

this would prove to be the tamest night of the entire weekend.
