dirty little whirlwind, i'm pinned to the heart of your swirl.

study break and a bit of thought.

i’ve been sitting for the past few hours ruminating over three readings that i finished tonight, trying desperately to pick the best one to apply to my essay.

i settled on the most obvious of the choices but at least now i have a solid train of thought.

as a reward for this milestone, i’ve decided to take a study break, and now i’m lying here looking up at the obsolete lantern hanging right above my bed – lying here looking at the medley of photos i hung across the ceiling with a few clothespins and flimsy piece of string – and i’m thinking about how everything’s moving just a little too fast.

i thought i’d be glad when the semester finally came to an end, and i probably will be, but there are so many goodbyes that have to be said and so many paths about to diverge – some temporarily, others not so much.

it makes me sad to think that the friends i’ve gotten into the habit of seeing almost everyday will suddenly not be there anymore.

but i guess with every end comes a little melancholy.

and with every beginning comes the potential for something different, but perhaps just as wonderful as what you leave behind.

this summer looks promising already, and i wonder how much of all this i’ll miss when i’m distracted by the heat of it all.

sometimes i’ll miss a little, sometimes i’ll miss a lot, but i guess that’s the beauty of it.

at least i’ve had these things – these shared moments of joy or sadness or anything else worth remembering – to miss.
