jared, joffjoff, luke and i all ostaffed for science games this year and it was fun because we only had to work one shift but we still got access to all the events and we basically got as much beer as we wanted.
i was a sloppy mess at beer olympics on the first night, but i had fun watching everyone playing the games and cheering and dancing. so much electricity in the air at events like these – everyone’s so pumped up and people get really into it. i’m pretty sure i threw a bottle full of beer on the floor at one point but oh well, you win some you lose some and sometimes you just throw some on the floor.
friday afternoon was iron chef and the science crawl and luke and i were stationed at the main stage helping shannon and john run pipettes (which was so confusing, but pretty good after we got a good system down) and stacks. i had a lot of fun and i got to dance a lot and drink a lot and there were three different occasions of people chanting my name, or chanting “we love obed” or something along those lines, which was so cute.
we went to blues pub and then took some happy pills before heading to the power hour. i was already pretty drunk at this point, and the rest of the night was kind of a blur of dancing, drinking and making out with people (girls and guys) .
i ended up hooking up with one of my friends in front of everyone, which may not necessarily have been the best idea, but also life is too short to not do things that are fun and feel good. besides, we’re both v mature so i’m sure it’ll all be fine. i ended up going home with him and some of it was cute and some of it was steamy, but all of it was fun. we didn’t do anything serious, so good for us. i told one of my closest friends that this happened and we both decided that his displays of confidence and comfort with his own sexuality and masculinity make him seem way more attractive and manlier, if anything – a truly modern man.
i woke up in a bed damp with beer, put on my ripped shirt and met up with luke before heading to the pancake kegger which was also super fun. i ate a bunch of pancakes and bacon and drank a bunch of beer and red rain and i watched people play slap cup and beer pong and have debates. i also met a bunch of people, which is always nice.
luke and jared and i followed gaelan & co. back to a new rez common room where we continued the festivities. i got to visit my old room and the girl living there now was so nice and she told me to come back whenever i wanted.
after a couple of hours of drinking games (i played slap cup for the first time and it turns out i’m surprisingly good at it), i finally got to go home and shower – i was so sticky and gross from the night before because people kept just pouring beer on me. sometimes they would aim for my mouth, but mostly they would miss. a bunch of people also did body shots off of me. i accidentally fell asleep while i was at home though, so i was kind of late for the ultimate pre, but that was alright. i still got a bunch of jungle juice.
and then we headed to old port for the boat races and the closing ceremonies. i danced with a bunch of guys and made out with a few people and luke and jared and i stayed even after the event officially ended. that meant we were dancing shirtless on stage with a bunch of random montrealers who were just out for a night on the town.
some guy kept getting champagne and pouring it down my throat, which was very generous, and i think a lot of people really enjoyed the spectacle of a bunch of shirtless guys dancing on stage. i also made out with a guy i met that night on stage and people were aaahing and oohing and cheering. it was v scandalous and v sensual, but i should probably stop making out with people in front of crowds.
we stayed until the bitter end until we were all danced out and i managed to find my coat (which i’d refused to coat check), which made me feel v blessed. then jared and i went to belle pro and got poutine, which i haven’t had in so long.
all in all, the whole weekend was one really fun party with all my friends and i had an amazing time. now i really get the appeal of these events, even though they’re kind of gross and leave you feeling kind of sticky. everyone is just so fun and so free – so uninhibited and just down to have a good time.
i’m kind of sad that it was my first and last science games, but at least i got to do it!
not sure if i would ever do carnival though – that might just be a bit too much.
