two weekends ago, a bunch of us (jq, emma, jordan, renee and i) went to jq’s cottage for the weekend – a much anticipated little getaway.
it was a really fun and boozey time.
we got there at around 8:00PM, and i was probably drunk by 8:30. but hey, though i might’ve gotten drunk the fastest, i also probably drank the most throughout the night. i brought a 1.1L bottle of vodka that was supposed to last me the entire weekend, but when i pulled it out of the freezer the next morning, barely one third of it was left.
still, i surprisingly didn’t have a hangover the next day, and i surprisingly even remembered jq’s casually racist neighbour dropping by and playing games with us for a bit.
i also remember playing cunties earlier in the night (hence the caption in that first photo, i’m not just calling my friends cunties), and everyone bullying me by constantly hitting the quarter against my bottle, “forcing” me to drink.
we went to the beach the next day and it was very lazy and sunsoaked and nice. the water was much warmer than we expected it to be, which was a welcome treat. we started playing 21, where you go around the circle and count from 1 – 21 in turn, and whoever 21 lands on has to make up a rule related to a number (e.g. drink instead of saying 4) and the goal is to remember all the rules.
it got us pretty drunk, and at one point we all wanted to go back into the water so jordan came up with the cute idea of making a rule that instead of someone flipping someone else off instead of saying 21, we all run into the water.
the next time we successfully reached 21, which took a couple of rounds because people kept forgetting the rules, we had a very cinematic moment where we all got up and ran into the water together. there was a bit of hesitation at first while we all remembered what 21 meant, but as soon as one of us was up, the rest of us followed, and honestly, it was super cute.
and i’m going to note this just so i remember it years from now when i reread this again: renee brought her phone into the water and was basically dragging it under the current, even though jordan, jq and i kept telling her it wasn’t a good idea.
she kept responding with “don’t worry guys, it’s water resistant” and we kept saying “ummmm i don’t think that’s what means” when she continued to unnecessarily dunk her phone.
it actually worked longer than we thought it would before completely shutting down.
the rest of the night was spent playing multiple rounds of flip cup and slap cup (which i’m apparently really good at) and cooking what turned out to be a very nice dinner of chicken, vegetables and potatoes.
renee also cut her finger open while chopping a zucchini in perhaps the most hazardous way you can imagine (vertically, length-wise), and i remember seeing it before it happened yet being completely unable to stop it.
and after more rounds of slap cup, we played cards against humanity before putting on pitch perfect while everyone fell asleep.
the next day was just a bit of breakfast and recovery and packing things up before the long drive home.
all in all, it was a pretty cute and successful cottage weekend – a good time with an even better crew.
