i went to an ice sculpture festival in yorkville with my family today and it was nice to be out and about even though i wasn’t wearing a warm enough coat.

we stopped at an italian cafe and i got a cannoli, which i’d actually been subtly craving for a while now, and a latte, and one of my brothers got a tiramisu.

when i was younger, i used to order tiramisu for dessert at restaurants whenever it was offered, even though it wasn’t my favourite thing if i was being honest with myself. i remember sometimes wishing i’d picked something else. i think i just wanted to be the kind of person who liked tiramisu because it seemed sophisticated and worldly and posh.

the tiramisu that ophir got was actually pretty good though, so maybe i am that person now.

the ice sculptures turned out to be not as impressive as i thought they were going to be. i was imagining intricately detailed sculptures at least a storey high, sice most of them were supposed to be modeled after famour international landmarks, but most of them were about the size of a person.

it also unfortunate that some of the sculptures had been at least partially destroyed, or partially melted off (the festival started yesterday). my mom had been looking forward to seeing the ice sculpture version of Christ the Redeemer, but when we got to the spot where it was supposed to be, all that was left were chunks of ice scattered on the floor.

actually, most of the sculptures on that stretch of the street had been completely shattered, and we wondered if it was the work of a drunkard, or of some anti-religious person who went and destroyed the other sculptures to make the whole thing not seem religiously motivated.

it’s going to be so nice when the weather gets warmer and we can start leisurely walking around outside and hanging out at parks again.

i saw a timeline for covid vaccine rollouts to the general population, and it looks like my age group will be last to receive them at around August-September.

i’ve seen a lot of my fellow canadians voice frustration at the fact that americans, who have historically handled this pandemic pretty disastrously, will be receiving the vaccine so much quicker. but i guess their mishandling of the pandemic is more of a reason to get them vaccinated, if we’re really looking at the greater good and minimizing the damage. also, it’s not their fault we don’t have our own vaccine manufacturing facilities.

still, i’m looking forward to when enough of us are vaccinated that we can start putting all of this behind us. it kind of sucks that we’re going to miss out on another summer, but honestly last summer wasn’t even that bad. also, i’m saving a lot of money right now, which is nice.

i wonder if i’m going to stay in more after everything goes back to normal, or if i’m going to go back to going out basically every weekend. i’m hoping i’ll at least be able to exercise more control when i go out and stop over-drinking.

there really isn’t any reason why i need to have such a foggy memory for these boisterous nights anymore. wouldn’t it be nice to actually remember the majority of the conversations i have with strangers?

there is beauty in moderation.
