shopping.

above: me in the new muscle tee that i bought at a&f. i don’t usually wear muscle shirts so i can’t tell if it’s too tight. also, colin sprayed it with copious amounts of phelps so now it smells like a ten-year-old boy.
i worked twelve hours on boxing day, and that was death, but i got paid time and a half, so it’s alright, i guess.
it was super busy because our entire store’s 40% off, so all the little minions were rushing in to buy expensive clothes for cheap.
‘tis the season of the sales, so i partook in some shopping myself during my three hour break between shifts.
i got a pretty nice, oversized army-esque shirt from h&m and then i headed over to a&f – a store i usually never shop at – because the sale makes the clothes cheaper than my employee discount does.
i used my associate card to bud the ridiculously long line (i don’t understand how people have the patience to wait in line for clothes), and bought three tops.
i now have four things from a&f.
and i finally have something i can wear at work other than my blue plaid shirt.
however, i spent, like, $120 on three things (mind you, the sweater’s REALLY comfy), so i still feel kind of jipped.
i mean, that’s a lot of money to me.
it’s at least sixty coffees or about twenty mcdonalds meals

christmas.

above: me (wrapped in my snuggie) having just woken up on christmas morning (afternoon). such are the luxuries of a boy from a family that opens its presents on christmas eve.
i got home from work yesterday completely exhausted so i took a series of micro-naps before my parents yelled at me to get dressed so we could go to the church service.
my entire family always dresses so formally for the church service. we don our dress shirts, dress pants and dresses, black shoes, ties, and blazers, and we still always arrive late.
grant’s message was pretty moving, as per usual, and i think it kind of shot some christmas spirit back into the people who were lacking in it. the service was jam packed with rhythmically mystifying carols and short, insightful messages about forgiveness and love and the the reasons we celebrate christmas aside from the excuse for presents and inordinately good cheer.
when we got home, i went back to sleep and woke up four hours later for the family dinner, which will leave us with leftovers for the next week.
everybody thinks i’m a crazy alcoholic because i like coolers, but really, they’re just actually delicious.
and then we opened our presents.
i got ‘atlas shrugged’ by ayn rand, an extra thirty dollars, a wallet, a watch that was made for an obese man (i’m going to have to go back to the merchant to have it adjusted), and a snuggie.
my presents seem to symbolize what i want in a partner: intelligence, wealth, punctuality, warmth and comfort.
and after basking in the euphoria of our new things, my family went and watched love actually, which was actually a pretty enjoyable movie.
it kind of made me want to never fall in love though.
it’s all just so complicated.
this morning i looked in my stocking and found mounds of chocolate.
this pleases me.
i will be stuffing my face with ferrero rocher all day, and really, isn’t that what christmas is all about?
and my dad just walked into my room with more turkey and mashed potatoes.
life is good.

“The observations and encounters of a man of solitude and few words are at once more nebulous and more intense than those of a gregarious man, his thoughts more ponderable, more bizarre and never without a hint of sadness. Images and perceptions that might easily be dismissed with a glance, a laugh, an exchange of opinions occupy him unduly; they are heightened in the silence, gain in significance, turn into experience, adventure, emotion. Solitude begets originality, bold and disconcerting beauty, poetry. But solitude can also beget perversity, disparity, the absurd and the forbidden.”

dinner.

me and a bunch of my coworkers at the pickle barrel. i’m wearing the hat yura gave me.
we were supposed to meet outside of abercrombie at nine o’clock, but i was so bored at home that i decided to get the mall an hour early and kill time there.
i ended up bumping into annabelle and we went on a fruitless hunt for a girl’s polo shirt before parting ways.
then i bumped into bre, who was working and hating life.
apparently the store had been ridiculously busy (which i totally believed considering how crowded the mall was) and she was in no mood to deal with the awful crowds.
but hey, money’s money, right?
so i walked her back to the store and saw marianne and we headed over to victoria’s secret so she could buy some lotion or something for her mom’s friend, and we bumped into monica on the way.
we got back to the store by nine o’clock, and jesse and shehan were just leaving, with soraya and sahifa following closely behind. i went in to check my schedule and it turns out i’m working almost all of next week too.
it took us forever to decide where to eat, and by the time yura arrived, we were pretty set on the pickle barrel, even though shehan had some reservations.
we got a booth at pickle barrel and there were some really loud people next to us, which seemed to piss monica off more than the rest of us.
dinner was filled with chatter and laughter and even though my and sahifa’s dishes weren’t actually made correctly, it was still a pretty good time.
yura had actually gotten us all presents (thongs for the ladies, various other gifts for the guys), which explained her late arrival. she is actually the sweetest thing.
we were going to order dessert, but apparently the kitchen was closed so we decided to save that for tomorrow night.
most of us are working a closing shift tomorrow anyways.
good stuff.
we got our fit waiter to take a couple of group photos of us, and people started talking about how they could finally feel the christmas spirit.
oh, what a joyous, merry time.

i am sick and tired of some of the chinese people i know shoving their perceived superiority down my throat.
it’s okay to be patriotic, but please don’t try to convince me that the entire world outside of china is somehow thoroughly inferior.
-
john finally gave me his old ipod.
THANKS JOHN.
now i can bring music with me wherever i go, and i won’t have to feel so awkward on public transit.
unfortunately, john has my wallet because i forgot it at church.
now i don’t know when my call in is tomorrow.
also, i watched tron with yodit today.
VISUALLY STUNNING.

12/18/2010

above: my normal face, in it’s natural habitat of darkness. elaha’s supposed to be behind me, but she insisted that photos would bring about only the worst of consequences and so shielded herself with my blanket.
i spent most of the day at work.
i was at the front most of the time with charissa and then annie, and we danced and jived and made fools of ourselves in front of all the passers-by (although i think we brightened their day).
i kept getting paranoid that someone would eventually watch all of it on the security tapes and then i would subsequently be fired, but hopefully that won’t end up happening.
i kept seeing people i knew walking by the store.
a couple of people from school, a couple of people outside of school, and i even saw dave from second cup so i called him over for a chat.
i guess everyone’s just trying to get all of their christmas shopping done.
elaha and qais poorly simulated sex while waiting for me to leave work, and then we walked to my house for a good period of rest.
as the ritual goes, when we got into my room, we turned out all the lights, put on some bon iver and climbed into my bed.
there is something so wonderfully relaxing and tranquil about unbound and freely floating limbs. and since everything was immersed in a still kind of darkness, everything was okay.
but they fought a lot, and although this disturbed the peace, i didn’t really mind.

and so it begins.

above: a photo of me and monica at cafe crepe.
so today was my first real day of freedom from school.
i spent it at work, which i’ve slowly come to realize is a good indicator of how the rest of this winter break is going to be.
i covered someone’s shift from 10.00am to 2.00pm and then left for what would turn out to be a five hour break before heading back at 7.00pm.
after i left work the first time, i bumped into alexia and we bummed around for a bit before i decided to go home because of exhaustion.
however, shannon rung me up while i was on the streetcar home and let me know that she had gone into my store to surprise visit me, but had come slightly too late. after finding out she was still at eatons, i got off the streetcar, turned around and trekked back to the mall to meet her.
and then – after some underwear shopping and a cheap mcdondalds meal – i finally went home.
i was planning on resting a bit before elaha came to my house for some quality time – and then i would go to meet thadea and the gang to watch tron IN FULL COSTUME.
however, thadea called and told me tron was sold out in all theatres (i was surprised), so that was a bust. and then my boss called and asked me if i could come back to work because i had a call in. so i called elaha, canceled plans, and went back to work until closing.
thadea called while i was at work and let me know that although they weren’t going to see the movie anymore, everyone had shown up at nicky’s house in full costume and they were all just chilling, so i guess i kind of missed out.
it was okay though, because after work, a bunch of my coworkers and i decided to treat ourselves to crepes.
i love crepes.
i love food.
food makes everything better.
so that was how i spent my first day of freedom.
i mean, i don’t mind because i’m not planning on going on any life-changing adventures, or finding some savage, fiery love or anything like that during the break.
i just want it to be quiet, and i want to read and rest and catch up on my mad men.
and if i can make some money in between, then all for the better.
oh, and on a side note: charissa, my coworker, has a ting and auditioned to be part of the cheetah girls.
cool stuff, eh?
