shannon and i met up for a spontaneous late night prowl tonight, though we didn’t really end up prowling the night.
instead, we headed over to frans diner.
how waiter was working again, but our server decided to seat us at a table where he wasn’t in our line of sight.
he’d pass by on the rare occasion, and i’d blatantly, obviously stare.
no subtlety points for me.
during the night, shannon told me a few interesting – and downright hilarious – things about someone i’m involved with at the moment.
soraya and i bought chelsea a fish as her belated birthday present today.
we went all the way to the cj’s pet store at eglinton to get it.
she took a long time deciding which fish to buy (“they all look so dead”) because she wanted the fish to be compatible with the tank she bought for it.
this means we needed to get one of the pretty betta fish instead of one of the livelier and much more amusing – yet dumb-looking – fish that were on display.
after we bought the fish, we went and ate sushi because we were craving it.
if he ever reads this, he’ll probably be really creeped out, but whatever. i couldn’t think of a more appropriate title than his name for this post.
i met sam last saturday night during pride. there were things on my mind and he helped me forget them for a while. and for a bit, i thought that’d be it. i thought that nothing would really happen after that night.
but then we went to watch transformers and he held my hand the whole way through and i realized i quite enjoyed his company – i liked being with him.
a couple of days later we hung out before i had to go for work. he met up with me while i was having coffee with annabelle. they’re mutual friends who don’t really talk that much, but it wasn’t awkward or anything so that was good. we followed her around for a bit before she had to go for work, and he held my hand wherever we went.
it’s nice to be with someone who isn’t afraid to hold your hand.
and then when annabelle left for work, sam and i went and laid down on the grass of a park for about an hour. it was just us laying there and it was relaxing and i was content.
i slept over at his place on saturday – exactly one week since the night i met him. he picked me up and drove me to his apartment. he made chicken parmesan (he’s actually such a good chef) and we watched movies – although we kept getting ‘distracted’ in the best kind of way.
we watched tangled, planet terror and death proof.
we had to pause tangled to tend to the ‘distractions,’ and we were ‘distracted’ again during planet terror, but we didn’t pause it so i missed most of it.
he fell asleep during death proof and i kept accidentally waking him up because i was so engrossed in the movie (i am so sad jungle julia died). i’m just happy he wasn’t angry with me. and then i fell asleep, and i know i say this often, but it really is nice to just fall asleep with someone beside you – especially with tangled limbs
we woke up and he made us eggs in a basket for breakfast and then we tried to watch pulp fiction but we got ‘distracted’ during that too.
above: mackenzie, me and alex. we are clearly completely sober.
sunday started off with a slight tone of irony – my family and i went to church.
and right after that, i met up with casey and a couple of her friends and made my way downtown to hop on the tdsb float and take part in the pride parade.
just like last year, we stood on that float, danced, cheered at the audience and got really, really hot and sweaty. it was pretty fun and by the end of it i could no longer bear to wear a shirt.
i met up with sam shortly afterwards and we walked around hand in hand for all of the 20 minutes of free time i had before i had to go and pick my sister up at the airport with the fam.
i got bored waiting around for my sister to appear so i had to get $12 worth of food. i also kept yelling ‘ORPAH’ at irregular intervals even though she was clearly nowhere in sight. it’s insanely fun to be obnoxious when you’re surrounded boy a terminal’s worth of people you know you’ll probably never see again.
when she finally arrived i kept pointing at her and yelling ‘LOOK WHO IT IS.’ and she wasn’t even phased. that is how you know she’s my sister.
a few hours later i was meeting up with rowina outside of stephen’s apartment building. we went to pick up some chase and then headed upstairs where the fun would begin.
a few people were already there and i got to drinking immediately and by the time we left more people had joined and i think we were all – well, the definite majority of us – were feeling a pretty decent buzz.
but then tragedy struck, as it always does when i’m with a large group of people/hot guy and am just looking to have some fun.
what made last night so damn wonderful was that we avoided crews, which is pretty much cursed to me.
as soon as they suggested that we head over there, i knew something was going to go wrong. and it did.
the same manager and bouncer who had let me in just last weekend decided to once again bring up the fact that i’m underage. lots of yelling ensued and i rolled my eyes profusely and they tried to confiscate my id but i was determined not to give it up without a fight. i was not going to leave those front steps without my id. and i didn’t.
they eventually relented after i threatened to shut them down (“i know at least two underage kids who are in there right now. if you call the cops, i’ll just point them out. just give me my damn id and i’ll leave”), but now they hate me forever. it’s okay though. i’ll be in montreal in a couple of months and by the time i get back i’ll be legal and they probably won’t even remember who i am.
so rowina, katalina and i decided to line up for play since we’d had a good time there the previous night, but then i get a text from bram saying he was all alone and so i stood in the middle of the street to meet him.
he told me he was going to head home, and i said i’d walk him to his bike. he said no. then i offered katalina to walk him to his bike. he said no again.
i can’t even remember what happened, but i think i was getting kind of frustrated because i left the three of them (katalina, rowina and bram) and went off to find soraya. but for some reason, i had to retrace my steps and i guess i was walking past them because i felt a hand grab my arm and when i turned around they were right in front of me.
and so i walked with them, and i didn’t know where we were going, but we walked and walked and walked. we walked in one giant circle (square) and then i got kind of antsy and ditched them. it was probably a -badfriend- move, but nothing was really happening, nothing was getting accomplished and all i wanted to do was have a good time.
i decided to head to the barn to meet up with soraya, but she was leaving by the time i got there and so i tagged along with her and her crowd. we made our way over to pizzaiolo and her friend alex (who would later go on to let me know how cool of a guy i am and then subsequently call me an idiot) bought us all a large pizza and paid for it with ‘a hundy.’ i did not cmoplain.
after the minifeast we went to drop alex off at his apartment and pick up soraya’s things and he kept going on and on about some pool and i kind of got excited. i found out this magnificent pool was actually a kiddie pool on his balcony and i found this absolutely hilarious. like, i actually couldn’t stop laughing when i saw it.
i parted with them after a while and i was on my way home when i got a text from mackenzie telling me she and her friends were at pizzaiolo.
obviously i couldn’t miss out on an opportunity to stay out later, so i met up with them.
stripping down, making out and general hedonism followed and it was a pretty fun end to the night.
alex dropped, cracked and then lost her phone, mack and spencer threw up in the washroom at pizza pizza (where we eventually ended up) because the state of it was so absolutely disgusting, and mack and i had nice realtalk on our walk home.
although the night was a mixture of a bunch of different things – rage and hilarity being a couple of them – i can’t say i didn’t enjoy it.
above: from left to right – miles, sam, me, rowina, joey, lawrence (?), and julia having fun on the street on saturday night.
i wasn’t even going to go out, but i am so – SO – glad that i did.
it turned out to be one of the most fun and most fortunate nights i’ve had in a very long time.
katalina and i headed to my place after work so i could change into something a little sexier for the occasion. i wasn’t really in the mood to party it up but she convinced me to go with her, and for that i am eternally grateful.
i made sure i had all the essentials – alcohol, phone, wallet, etc – and then we made our way over to rowina’s apartment to pre. a couple of her friends – andrew and julia – arrived soon after we did and we poured the drinks, passed them around and got ready to have a good time.
by the time we left, it was raining and although i usually would’ve taken this as a bad omen, i was kind of tipsy so i didn’t really notice it. plus, i thought the rain might just add to the sexy factor so i didn’t really mind.
a couple of their friends – sam and miles – were already at some place called play, so we got in line and met up with them. katalina sneaked in some pizza like the absolute ninja she is and it was kind of comical watching her try to eat it on the dance floor, amidst the crowds and crowds of sweaty people.
we danced for a while there, and katalina convinced me to rid my mind of the certain people and certain situations that were plaguing it and just have some fun. she wanted me to let loose, and so i did – i snatched sam all to myself and we ended up making out for quite a while, if i remember correctly.
and that is how i claimed him for the night.
we left after a while and headed into a grocery store so miles could pick up a pack of cigarettes. it was there that we started discussing miles’ sexuality. he claims to be bisexual but apparently he’d never kissed a guy before, so i told him he had to and laid one on him.
and then everyone started kissing everyone else and it was all very uplifting (if not entirely strange).
after that we went over to a place called statler’s because we wanted to jam on the patio.
this turned out to be the most frustrating part of the night. there was a line to get upstairs and after we past that line we thought we were in the clear. we were terribly wrong. there was yet another line to get onto the actual patio.
and the bouncer who was monitoring this line was a huge jackass. we waited and waited and waited and it wasn’t long before we realized that other people who had been in line behind us were being let onto the patio first.
it turns out the bouncer wanted some action from miles and wasn’t going to let us in until he got some. but miles wasn’t about to give him any and the fact that this crazy as hell bouncer was rubbing his junk all over him wasn’t going to change his mind. then some guy said last call was in eight minutes and it was probably pointless to try and get onto the patio at that point.
so we just got really mad and left.
once we were outside, we sat around in a circle on the street and decided we wouldn’t let that horrible episode ruin the night. in any case, we’d had fun dancing and chilling while we were in the lines, so it didn’t even really matter.
random passers-by would join our circle on occasion. i distinctly remember a girl named lesha (whose name rhymes with kesha, as she so proudly announced).
and then, out of nowhere, i saw the starbucks barista i always flirt with come walking down the street. i decided that it was time to introduce ourselves – his name is joey – and we even got a photo together (see above).
hopefully it’s the start of a wonderful friendship (full of free drinks and maybe pastries).
i headed home soon after that, completely satisfied with the night and with plans to meet up with sam the very next day.
above: apparently someone lost their weave at the beach. there must have been a cat fight or something. we kept seeing pieces of it everywhere.
so i impulsively met up with elaha after work on friday night and we spontaneously decided that it would be nice to go to the beach and watch the canada day fireworks display.
gotta love super last minute plans. they’re always the ones that turn out to be the most fun.
unfortunately, elaha arrived at the meeting place late and public transit was obscenely crowded so we ended up watching the fireworks through the window of a bus on the way to the beach.
when we got to the actual beach, a whole bunch of people were running away in a massive stampede, which both frightened and intrigued us. someone probably got shot or something – we never really found out, even though elaha kept asking ‘what happened?’ to nobody in particular.
we’re kind of stupid so the massive stampede didn’t scare us away and even though it seemed kind of dangerous, we decided to walk along the sand for a while before leaving.
elaha really wanted to get indian food afterwards so we walked all the way to the only 24 hour indian restaurant in town – the king’s palace. if anyone knows where this is, they’ll know it’s a hell of a long walk. from the beaches to bloor and yonge? that’s dedication.
we walked and we walked and we walked and then went into a mcdonalds to pee and grab an ice coffee and then we walked some more – past bridges and pubs and people with very questioning looks on their faces.
and we sang while we walked and discovered how difficult it is to come up with working harmonies if you over think it.
the king’s palace happened to be located along church street so we were able to immerse ourselves in the pride week celebrations on our way. the streets had been boarded off and they were jam packed with people. it was late and it was busy and it was loud and we enjoyed the intense vibrance of the city nightlife and all of the wonderful things that came with it.
people were just out and having a good time and everyone was friendly and it made us happy.
so we eventually made it to the king’s palace and realized the name of the restaurant was exceedingly misleading. suffice it to say it wasn’t exactly fine dining, but what more can you expect from some place that’s open 24 hours?
at least the food was good.
yodit met up with us having just finished her shift at work.
she’s really bad at following directions.
and we ate and enjoyed each other’s company and then headed back in the direction we came from to witness more of the liveliness of the night.
it was nice to see so many people out at 3 am, even if elaha kept warding off any potential friends by yelling ‘DON’T LOOK AT MY FRIEND’ at anyone she happened to catch checking me out.
and then we parted ways and i headed home all on my lonesome and i wasn’t even that scared of getting raped or beaten to death.
this would prove to be the tamest night of the entire weekend.
