above: from left to right; tom, jesse, yura and me – four ride warriors at the end of a long and rewarding day.
we all met up at yorkdale at EXACTLY 9.30 am sharp on friday morning. i literally reached them as soon as it hit 9.30, which was, to me, very impressive.
from there we would catch a go bus which would take us to the amusement park, where we were to be so vastly amused. however, the bus was full as it had already stopped at another station beforehand so tom and i had to stand – not a very good start to tom’s day, but i didn’t really mind.
when we finally got to the park, we were all very excited.
unfortunately, it turns out that we were – or, more likely, i was – cursed and as soon as i, leading my group of friends, was about to walk through the entrance gate, the guy in front of me caused a delay. this lasted for about five minutes. i think it was because he had a football with him or something. in any case, when he was finally done filling out his forms and passing on through, the security guard who was supposed to check my backpack left for some reason. as i couldn’t be bothered to wait for him, i nonchalantly slid through the entrance gate and kind of shuffled my way to the ticket collector, much to the amusement of my companions.
it was too easy. the entire time i was thinking about how i should’ve smuggled in food or alcohol or a gun or something.
the three of them soon joined me and we all went on our merry way.
throughout the day, we would suffer through many coincidental delays – the 3D spongebob show had a technical difficulty and actually broke down right before our sitting and that’s when i realized we were cursed. it also started raining right as we were about to get on one of the roller coasters and some inept girl lost her flip flop causing a five minute delay right as it was our turn to get on the psyclone. it was so strange. retrieving it involved fishing it out from under the ride with what looked like a tool specially designed to fish flip flops out from under the ride.
JUST DON’T WEAR YOUR DAMN FLIP FLOPS ON THE RIDE.
i rode the behemoth for the first time ever and it was THRILLING. tom, like, cried.
we rode pretty much everything. even the new ride – ‘windseeker’ – which was lame.
we even rode the water rides, even though i was wearing jeans and jesse was adamantly opposed to the idea.
his face on the white water canyon was priceless. he was screaming the entire time and these two french girls who were in our boat probably thought he was insane. i would’ve filmed it, but i didn’t want my camera to get water damage.
funny story: we went on timberwolf falls and got wet but not soaked, which was fine.
however, yura and i decided to go to the splashzone which was this kind of bridge where we would be able to view other people on the ride and laugh at how wet they’d get.
but we didn’t know it was the splashzone. i’d ignored all the warning signs that read (SPLASHZONE) or (GET WET HERE) or other things along those lines and yura was too busy taking out her iphone to take a snapshot to notice anything amiss, so we were severely unprepared for the MASSIVE TIDE OF WATER that assaulted us.
a knowing jesse hadn’t warned us. he was standing next to some old lady right outside the splashzone laughing his ass off at our misery.
i was wet and cold for, like, the rest of the day.
but i still had fun.
a few rides, a funnel cake and a giant tub of popcorn later and we were on the bus going home.
we were all exhausted so it was a good thing that we all managed to get seats.
yura and i fell asleep.
and then i went to work to pick up a cupcake, but i didn’t end up getting this promised cupcake because soraya had eaten it thinking i wasn’t going to show up.
secret: if i am promised food, i will do whatever i can to retrieve it.
so i went home with only my paycheck in hand, but it was such an amazing day that i didn’t care much for the missed cupcake or even for having to have faced ty’s irritated wrath.
i got home and almost immediately fell asleep and so missed yodit’s call and invite to the beach party she was at.
i didn’t really care that i missed it either.
i was already satisfied with what the day had brought me.
